Unit 5: OUR EXPERIENCES Test 1 Henry: Hi Emma! I've just returned from Paris. I brought you some French pastries. Emma: That's so thoughtful, Henry! Did you have a good time with your family? Henry: Absolutely! We visited the Eiffel Tower and Notre-Dame Cathedral. We also saw an amazing street performance in the evening. Emma: What was it like at the Eiffel Tower? Henry: We took the elevator to the top. It was quite nerve-wracking but exciting! Then we joined a guided tour. The guide told us that the tower has over 2.5 million rivets and is painted every seven years. Emma: That's fascinating! What else did you do? Henry: We captured some breathtaking photos of the city view. It was incredible! Emma: Did you explore Notre-Dame too? Henry: Yes. We had a wonderful tour of the cathedral. We also took a boat ride on the Seine River afterward. Emma: That must have been delightful, Henry. Henry: It really was! In the evening, we watched street performers near Montmartre. We joined in with some local dancers and musicians. Then we tried authentic French crepes. It was an unforgettable evening. I'll share my photos with you. Emma: Fantastic! When I came back to school, I had to catch up with many lessons and homework. It was very stressful. I worked hard to complete all my assignments, but I didn't do very well in my English test. I usually sail through my English exams, but this time I only just managed to scrape through. I felt very disappointed because I thought the teacher marked my work unfairly. My friends helped me by sharing their notes, and my English teacher gave me extra homework to improve. I stayed after school many days to study more. It was a hard time, but I learned an important lesson: I should always ask for help when I need it. Now I know how to manage better if I miss school again. I'll create 3 different tasks to test comprehension of this passage about a student's challenging school experience:
