The favourable and warm reception, which the previous editions and reprints of this book have enjoyed all over India and abroad, has been a matter of great satisfaction. The present edition of this book is in S.I. Units. To make the book really useful at all levels, a number of articles as well as solved and unsolved examples have been added. The mistakes, which had crept in, have been eliminated. Three new chapters of Thick Cylindrical and Spherical Shells, Bending of Curved Bars and Mechanical Properties of Materials have also been added.
