🔖 ESSENTIAL READINGS ✍️ HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS LESSON 3 - FRIENDS ABROAD Exercise 6: Complete the sentences below. Choose ONE WORD ONLY from the passage for each answer. The Study Abroad Journey A. Many students dream of studying abroad. It is a chance to learn new things, meet people, and live in a different place. Every year, thousands of students travel to other countries to join schools or universities. For some, it is the first time away from home. B. Before going abroad, students need to prepare many things. First, they must apply for a student visa. This allows them to stay in the new country and attend school. Next, they need to find a place to live. Some students stay in student dormitories, while others rent rooms or stay with host families. C. Language can be a challenge. Some students do not speak the local language very well. This can make it hard to talk to people, read signs, or understand lessons. But over time, students improve. They take language classes, practice with friends, and slowly feel more confident. D. Living in a new country is exciting. There are new foods to try, new places to visit, and new customs to learn. Students often find that daily life is different from their home country. For example, mealtimes, greetings, or school rules might not be the same. This is called “culture shock.” At first, it can feel strange or even scary. But with time, most students get used to it. E. One of the best parts of studying abroad is making friends from different countries. These friends help students feel less alone and more connected. They study together, cook together, and explore the city together. Some friendships last for many years, even after students return home. Many students say that meeting new people is the most valuable part of the experience. F. Studying abroad also helps students grow. They become more independent. They learn to manage their time, cook their own meals, and solve problems on their own. These skills are useful for the future. Employers often like to hire people who have studied abroad because they are open-minded and can work with others from different cultures. 96
