Indefinite articles( Mạo từ bất định) : A/ An - Dùng “an” trước nguyên âm ( u, e, o, a, i) hoặc phụ âm “h” không đọc rõ Ví dụ : an hour, an honest person…. - Dùng “a” trước danh từ/ tính từ bắt đầu bằng 1 phụ âm. Vd : a book, a unit …… A/ an thường dùng trong các trường hợp sau + Dùng trước danh từ ( số ít đếm được) chưa xác định / mới đề cập lần đầu. + với danh từ chỉ nghề nghiệp . Ví dụ : a doctor , an engineer + các từ chỉ số, số lượng. Ví dụ : a hundred, a million, a pair of shoes , a few, a little,..... Không dùng a/ an trước danh từ không đếm được: Ví dụ : sugar, milk , information, water, .... 2. Definite Article ( Mạo từ xác định) : The Có "The" Không "The" o Dùng trước tên các đại dương, sông ngòi, biển, vịnh và các hồ (ở số nhiều) o The Red Sea, the Atlantic Ocean, the Persian Gufl, the Great Lakes o Trước tên các dãy núi The Rocky Mountains o Trước tên những vật thể duy nhất trong vũ trụ hoặc trên thế giới The earth, the moon o The schools, colleges, universities + of + danh từ riêng The University of Florida o the + số thứ tự + danh từ The third chapter. o Trước tên các cuộc chiến tranh khu vực với điều kiện tên khu vực đó phải được tính từ hoá The Korean War (=> The Vietnamese economy) o Trước tên các nước có hai từ trở lên (ngoại trừ Great Britain) The United States o Trước tên các nước được coi là một quần đảo hoặc một quần đảo The Philipines, The Virgin Islands, The Hawaii o Trước tên các tài liệu hoặc sự kiện lịch sử The Constitution, The Magna Carta o Trước tên các nhóm dân tộc thiểu số the Indians  Trước tên các môn học cụ thể The Solid matter Physics o Trước tên các nhạc cụ khi đề cập đến các nhạc cụ đó nói chung hoặc chơi các nhạc cụ đó.
