These are: “gulab-jamun, rasgulla, burfi, jalebi”, a garland of gulmohar and balloons. He also wants to ride a merry-go-round. He moves on without waiting for an answer. He then saw dragon-flies. The boy was charmed by little insects and worms. He collected flower petals. He saw a sweetmeat shop. He wanted to eat burfi. Then a flower seller attracted him. He wanted to have a flower-garland. Then he saw a balloon-seller. He wanted to
have a balloon. Then he saw a roundabout. He wanted to have a ride on it. So whatever he looked at he wanted that. But he had been lost by then. Q2. Why did the parents of the child turn down his requests for many things? Ans. There were many things the child wanted in the fair. He wanted burfi, gulabjamun, balloons, flower garlands etc. whatever he looked at he wanted that thing. But he knew that his parents won’t buy him any of them. For ‘burfi’ they would say he was greedy. For flower garlands they would say those looked cheap. If he asked for balloons, they would say he was older. He wanted to listen to the snake-charmer’s music. But they would call it rough for him. The child knew that his parents would turn down his request for these things. So he did not make requests for many more things. When he asked for a ride in the roundabout he had been lost. Q3. Why does the lost child keep crying when his is offered all the things that he wanted to have? Ans. The lost child wants many things from the fair. He sees many things and asks his parents to have these. But they don’t buy him for obvious reasons. They are poor. But they are his parents. He has a blood relation with him. They have given him birth. The man who saves the lost child from being crushed offers him many things. These are the things that the lost child wanted before being lost. But the lost child wanted his mother and father now. It is because these things are nothing as compared to his parents. These things won’t bring him his parents. But if his parents are there they would get these one day or the other. So the lost child finds his parents more valuable than these things. Therefore, he keeps crying that he want to have his parents. Q4. Describe how the child was lost? OR How was the child separated from his parents? Ans. when the child was in the midst of the fair, many things charmed him. He wanted all the things that he looked at. But he knew that his parents won’t buy him any of those things. He wanted to listen to the snake-charmer’s music. He went farther. He looked at various things. In the end, he came to a roundabout. Women and children were riding in it. They were enjoying the ride. They were laughing and merry-making. He wanted a ride in the roundabout. He asked his parents that he wanted a ride in that. But he did not get any response. When he looked back, he found his parents were not there. He had been lost. Q5. Describe how the child behaved after he was separated from his parents.
