Explain factors that are responsible for socio- culture change in Pakistan? 1. INTRODUCTION: Social change is when things in our society, like how people act, think, and live, start to become different. It's like a big shift that happens over time, making our world change and develop. Social change can be caused by new ideas, technology, or people working together for a better future. 2. MEANING OF SOCIAL CHANGE:
Social change refers to the transformation of societal norms, values, and structures, often driven by collective actions, that lead to significant shifts in attitudes, behaviors, and institutions over time. 3. DEFINITION OF SOCIAL CHANGE: • According to Emile Durkheim: “Emile Durkheim defined social change as the natural and necessary process through which societies adapt to external and internal factors, leading to shifts in social structures, norms, and values.” • According to J. Maccionis: “The Transformation of culture and social institutions over time is called social change.” 4. NATURE AND CHARACTERISTICS OF SOCIAL CHANGE: • Continuous Process: Social change is never-ending and happens all the time. Even small adjustments in how people live, work, and interact can contribute to social change. • Universal: Every society experience social change, but it might look different in various places. For instance, changes in technology or cultural norms happen globally, though their impacts can be felt differently in different regions. • Varied Speed: The speed of social change can differ. Evolutionary changes happen gradually over long periods, like shifts in family structures. Revolutionary changes are sudden and significant, like political revolutions that completely transform a government system. • Caused by Multiple Factors: Many factors contribute to social change. Advances in technology, such as the internet,
can transform communication. Economic shifts, like the industrial revolution, alter how people work and live. Cultural changes, like movements for gender equality, reshape societal norms and values. Political changes, such as new laws or policies, can also drive social change. • Collective Action: Social change often results from the combined efforts of groups of people. Movements like the civil rights movement or environmental activism demonstrate how collective action can lead to significant societal changes. • Impact on Society: Social change influences many aspects of society. It can change social norms (accepted behaviors), values (what people consider important), and institutions (like family, education, or government). For example, the increased use of digital technology has transformed education, work, and communication. 5. FACTORS BEHIND SOCIAL CHANGE: • Technology: New tools and devices, like the internet, smartphones, and social media, change how we communicate, work, and entertain ourselves. For example, online shopping has changed the way we buy things. • Economy: Changes in the economy, like more factories being built or a recession, affect jobs and money. When new industries grow, like the tech industry, they create new types of jobs and change how people live. • Culture: As people's beliefs and values change, society changes too. For instance, as more people believe in gender equality, women gain more opportunities in education and work.
• Politics: Decisions made by governments, like new laws or policies, can lead to social change. For example, when a government passes a law for better environmental protection, it can lead to cleaner air and water. • Education: When more people get educated, they learn new ideas and skills that can change society. Education can help people understand their rights and find better jobs, improving their lives and communities. • Demographics: Changes in the population, such as younger people or more elderly people, affect society. For example, if many people move to a city, it can lead to more housing and schools being built. • Social Movements: Groups of people working together to change something in society can make a big impact. For example, the civil rights movement in the 1960s fought for equal rights for African Americans and changed laws and attitudes. • Environment: Natural events like earthquakes, floods, or changes in the climate can force people to adapt. For example, climate change is leading to new ways of producing energy, like using solar power instead of fossil fuels. 6. FACTORS RESPONSIBLE FOR SOCIO CULTURE CHANGE IN PAKISTAN: • Technology: The spread of mobile phones, internet, and social media has changed how people communicate, learn, and do business. It has also influenced cultural trends and lifestyles. • Education: Increased access to education, especially for women and rural communities, has brought new ideas and perspectives, leading to changes in social norms and roles.
