Governments make organisations work more effectively. C. Governments set up a lot of wildlife conservation centres. D. People must be made aware of the need of preserving these species. Audio script: The destruction of animals’ or plant species’ habitats is one of the numerous reasons that might push them into extinction. Deforestation as well as soil, air, and water pollution are usually the main causes. Human exploitation of wild animals is another cause of endangerment. For example, unrestricted whale hunting during the last century led to many whale species becoming seriously endangered. The demand for animal parts, which are used in certain foods or medicines, further contributes to this issue. Additionally, the introduction of non-native species into an ecosystem can have detrimental effects on existing species. A prime example is the brown tree snake. Unintentionally brought to Guam by cargo ships, the snakes caused the extinction of 10 out of the 11 native bird species in the island’s forests. Organisations such as the World Wild Fund for Nature works to increase public awareness of endangered plants and animals. These groups work with governmental bodies to protect threatened or endangered species. But in order to effectively preserve these species, it is essential to educate people about the importance of conservation.
