LISTENING Part 1: For questions 1-5, listen to a girl called Kelly telling her friend John about her family holiday. Decide if each sentence is True (T) or False (F). Write your answers in the corresponding numbered boxes. 1. Kelly and her brother enjoyed travelling around more than their parents did. T 2. John knows that the weather was hot where Kelly was. T 3. Kelly thought that her parents could afford to let her go windsurfing. F 4. John thinks families should spend all their time together on holiday. F 5. Kelly is sure her parents will buy a holiday home in the place they went to. F TRANSCRIPT John: Hi Kelly. You're back then. How are you? Kelly: Fine, thanks John. Yeah, we got back last night. John: Yeah, I had no idea. I thought you'd be over there for longer for some reason. So how was it? Kelly: Good thanks. We did loads of travelling around the island, which I really loved. So did Tom. You know my brother? I think my parents found it quite tiring though, because the weather was so hot (1). Thirty-five degrees some days. John: Yeah, I can imagine. I heard that it was pretty hot over there (2). So what kind of things did you do? Kelly: Well I was hoping to do some water sports while we were there. I'm already quite a good windsurfer, so I just wanted to hire a board and go off around a lake there. But they cost so much that I didn't feel I could ask my parents to pay (3). Anyway, in the end we hired JetSki's and that was brilliant. Even mom and dad had a go. John: That's really good. I reckon you have to find something that everyone enjoys doing together on a family holiday. Otherwise you just end up all doing your own thing and never really seeing each other. Though obviously it's good to have some time on your own (4). Kelly: Actually doing stuff together brought us together as a family, because we talked about it all through dinner. If you don't find something you all like, you can never really do that. John: So where do you think you'll go next for your holidays? Kelly: Well, obviously I'm keen to see as many new places as possible, but mom and dad really loved it there on the island. In fact, they're even talking about buying a small holiday home there right on the beach.
2 John: Wow. Kelly: Yeah, I know. It should be fantastic, as long as we didn't have to go there every time we had a holiday. John: Right. So what do you think will happen? Kelly: It's hard to say. The thing is, they always get these ideas while we're away somewhere. Then we get home and we all go back to work and school, and they never really get round to doing anything about it (5). It's not fair when people get your hopes up about something and then in the end it doesn't happen. Parents do that all the time. John: Yes, I know what you mean. Anyway, the island sounds wonderful. Part 2: For questions 6-13, listen to a woman talking about a man called William, who built a windmill in his village in Africa and fill in the missing information. The blades of the windmill were made of _____ plastic ______. 13. William's family is now able to grow ______ potatotes _____ as well as maize. TRANSCRIPT On my radio show today, I'm going to be telling you the amazing story of William. William was born and grew up in a small village in Malawi, in Africa. He wasn't naturally academic at school and in fact, he had to leave school at the age of 14 because his family couldn't afford to pay the $80 tuition fees. His family were farmers and they wanted William to become one too but William had ambitions to be a mechanic. This looked doubtful because the family had no money and so William had to help out in the fields. He still had some free time though so he would spend it in the local library. There he found two textbooks explaining physics and using energy. And from them, William found out all about how you could get electricity from windmills. William's village was very poor but it did have a lot of wind. He could see that electricity would solve a number of problems for his family and best of all, he would be able to have a light in his room so he could read at night. William could see that having a windmill to make electricity would mean freedom for himself and his family. The electricity would be able to quickly pump water to his family's fields of maize which would allow

4 needs of society. As previous industrial revolutions were led by innovations in manufacturing processes and systems, the advancement of Industry 4.0 will be driven by a smart, interconnected, pervasive environment. The opportunities for disruption are huge and those left behind will feel it acutely. There is still space for leaders of this new revolution to emerge, but the race has already started. Understanding what current leaders are doing will help you join them. KPMG formally examined what those trailblazers were doing in their factories and their offices and it revealed some thought-provoking findings. Our research highlighted a number of areas that current Industry 4.0 leaders are focusing on. Issues are planning ahead with clear strategic vision. Driven by performance and tying investment to prove an opportunities for growth, progress and innovation, they are focused on discovering how smart products and processes can be developed. Integration is key. The major players are moving away from isolated silo-driven development which limits scope and value of new projects. Instead, they are moving towards large-scale and proactive integration across their enterprise and among their customers, supply base and products. To ensure they are aware of every possible opportunity, Industry 4.0 technology has to offer. Perhaps most importantly, they are not afraid to think big and act bold. This means nurturing innovation, developing disruptive thought processes aimed at devastating the status quo and looking for opportunity in every element of their value chain, from which products are designed and how they are produced, to who they are sold to and how they are purchased. Your organization may be radically different in the future. With a range of products, services and processes, you can't currently predict. Do you want to join the leaders of Industry 4.0? Can you afford not to? Then our advice is, plan ahead, fight radical change with integrated radical action, and embrace the fact that it's time for manufacturers to step up and start making smart bold moves. If you don't, you could be left behind. You have this chance. Let us help you take it. Part 4: For questions 21-25, listen to a radio interview with a professional dancer called Ross Curtis.
