Explain the types of crime reported in urban and rural areas of Pakistan? (DEVIANCE) 1. INTRODUCTION: Deviance refers to behaviors or actions that deviate from societal norms and expectations. These actions may be considered unusual or unacceptable by a particular culture or community. Deviance can range from minor rule-breaking to more serious criminal

community support, can lead to an increase in deviant behavior. ✓ Strain and Frustration: When people experience stress and frustration due to unmet goals or aspirations, they may resort to deviant actions. ✓ Rebellion against Authority: Some individuals may engage in deviance as a form of protest against authority or societal norms they perceive as oppressive. ✓ Media and Popular Culture: Exposure to violent or deviant behavior in media can influence some individuals to mimic such actions. ✓ Substance Abuse: Drug and alcohol abuse can impair judgment and lead to deviant behavior as users prioritize satisfying their cravings. (CRIME) 1. INTRODUCTION: Crime refers to illegal activities that violate laws and regulations set by a society or government. These unlawful acts encompass a wide range of offenses, such as theft, assault, and vandalism. Crime undermines the safety and well-being of individuals and communities, necessitating effective measures to prevent and address it. 2. MEANING OF CRIME: Crime is an unlawful act that violates established laws or regulations, leading to social, moral, or legal consequences. 3. DEFINITION OF CRIME:
❖ According to Emile Durkheim: “Crime is any action that goes against the shared rules and values of a society. It's not just breaking laws but also doing things that society considers wrong.” 4. DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DEVIANCE AND CRIME: Here are some differences between deviance and crime. ❖ Definition: Deviance: Deviance refers to any behavior or action that violates social norms, but it may not necessarily be illegal. Crime: Crime refers to a specific type of deviance that involves breaking laws and is punishable by the legal system. ❖ Legality: Deviance: Deviant acts can be considered socially unacceptable but may not be against the law. Crime: Crimes are acts that are explicitly prohibited by law and can result in legal penalties. ❖ Social Reaction: Deviance: Deviance is often met with disapproval or social sanctions but may not involve legal consequences. Crime: Crimes usually elicit strong social reactions, and offenders may face legal punishment. ❖ Scope: Deviance: Deviant behavior can cover a wide range of actions, including unconventional beliefs or customs that challenge societal norms. Crime: Crimes are a specific subset of deviance, involving actions that are against the law. ❖ Punishment: Deviance: Deviant behavior is generally not subject to formal legal punishment but may face informal social consequences.
