FOREWORD ARMMC’S transformation from a 300 – bed hospital with multispecialty services, into a 500 – bed level 3 healthcare institution with end-referral multispecialty centers is a gargantuan challenge. In 2019, we embarked on this task by adopting the Performance Governance system through the assistance provided by the Institute for Solidarity in Asia. 03 IMELDA M. MATEO, MD MEDICAL CENTER CHIEF II Following our Initiation Revalida in November 2019, ARMMC has not only secured the commitment of its staff but has also fostered partnerships with various local and national government agencies to help realize this vision. As ARMMC advances to the compliance stage, we intend to achieve breakthroughs that are relevant to both our organization and LGU partners, reaffirming our steadfast dedication to delivering quality and advanced medical care, promoting staff development and overall well-being of our stakeholders, truly exemplifying “Amang” Kaagapay sa Kalingang Tagumpay!
BACKGROUND OF ARMMC The birth of ‘Amang’ Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center (ARMMC) was a realization of an inspirational idea conceptualized by then Rizal Governor Isidro Rodriguez and Marikina Mayor Osmundo De Guzman, who both dreamed of a hospital serving the indigent and labor class of Marikina and the neighboring towns of Rizal. ARMMC began as a 25-bed “Marikina Emergency Hospital” in 1964 by virtue of Republic Act No. 3862 and was renamed as Eulogio Rodriguez Sr. Memorial Hospital (ERSMH) in July 1969. Over the years, ERSMH became a 100 bed Tertiary Provincial Hospital and started departmentalization of the Medical Services in 1979. By May 1984, the hospital started the Internship Program under the Association of the Philippine Medical Colleges (APMC). Then, by virtue of Executive Order No. 119 in 1987, ERSMH became the hospital component under the District Health Office No. II of the DOH - National Capital Region (DOH-NCR). It was renamed to ‘Amang’ Rodriguez Medical Center (ARMC) in 1995 with an accompanying increase in bed capacity, to 150 (RA No.8019). On April 10, 2007, with the approval of R.A. No. 9419, the authorized bed capacity of ARMMC was increased to 300 and was renamed as ‘Amang’ Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center. Since then, ARMMC has been a National Medical Center that has gained the acceptance and preference of the general public within the eastern part of Metro-Manila and Rizal Province. Currently, it is a 500 – bed capacity (RA No. 11287, April 12, 2019) apex referral health facility under the Department of Health. ARMMC is also the first DOH retained hospital to be ISO 2015 accredited (and thrice recertified) for hospital operations service (Medical, Training and Research, Nursing, Administrative and Finance). 04
