The central authority is responsible for making decisions and implementing policies, making it easier to hold them accountable for their actions. V. National Unity: The unitary form of government can foster national unity. With a centralized authority, policies and laws can be designed to promote national cohesion and integration, reducing regional or local divisions within the country. 6. DEMERITS OF UNITARY FORM OF GOVERNMENT: Here are some demerits of unitary form of government. I. Lack of Local Autonomy: Under a unitary form of government, Power and decision-making authority are concentrated at the national level. This often leads to a lack of local autonomy. II. Inflexibility and Uniformity: Unitary governments tend to adopt uniform policies and regulations that apply to the entire country. While this may promote consistency, it can also limit the ability to address specific regional or local needs and preferences, resulting in inflexibility. III. Limited Representation: In a unitary system, power is primarily vested in the central government, which can lead to limited representation for diverse regions and minority groups. IV. Slow Response to Local Issues: Centralized decision-making can slow down the response to local issues and challenges. Since the central government must address the needs of the entire country, it may overlook the importance of specific regional or local problems.
