Last year, Jane won and I think she was given a box of new paints Man: It should be something different this time. How about some money? That’s always popular. Woman: Yes, but it would be nice to get them something that reminds them of the competition. I think a book about painting would be a good prize. Man: You’re right. Let’s do that! 3: Which photo does the girl dislike? Woman: I’ve got the photos back. Look, this one of us on the beach is just brilliant! Man: Yes. You must get a copy for me to keep as a souvenir. M: At about 9 o’clock. I work through until lunchtime, about midday, although sometimes it’s closer to one, and have a short break for something to eat. F: Do you ever eat while you are working? M: Sometimes I’d like to, but it’s my rule not to. I think it’s important to go somewhere else and concentrate on your food. F: Where do you work? M: I have my own office, but in fact, my wife is at work and my children are at school all day, so I could work anywhere in the house if I wanted to, even on the kitchen table. But then I’d have to clear everything away at the end of the day and I wouldn’t like that. F: Do you write after lunch? M: I usually deal with post and e-mails and then write again in the evening. F: How long does it take you to write a novel? M: It usually takes about six months to write it for the first time. I then put it away for a month and do other things, such as writing short stories. After that, I start re-writing and that can take another six or seven months. F: How do you feel when you’ve finished? Do you take a break from writing? M: No, I don’t. I carry on with my next project. I may decide to go away for a while, with the family, but I always take work with me. It may be another novel, or it may be a collection of short stories, or perhaps a magazine article. F: How do your family feel about that? M: They don’t mind. They’re used to me by now. Woman: It was by far the best episode, definitely. Man: Yeah, totally. The dragon at the end and all the special effects in that final scene were amazing. Woman: I loved that part! But I still don't think this series was as good as the others. Man: Really? But you said you wouldn't want to miss it? Woman: I know, but still … it's a lot more predictable than it used to be. Man: But that's because the story has been told so well that all the characters are reaching their destiny now.
