GRADE 4 ENGLISH Term 3, Week 4 (22) – 4020b & VR4006a The New Century Spelling Competition will take place in the first part of the lesson. Test conditions will apply. Due to the Spelling Competition, less time than usual will be spent on the homework booklets – please review these lesson notes after class. Word of the week: faint-hearted (from passage 2, the Bridge of Courage) (note that it is a hyphenated word) meaning: lacks courage or determination; may give up easily or be afraid to take risks synonyms: timid; fearful; nervous; apprehensive; anxious opposites (antonyms): brave; bold; courageous; fearless; resilient sentence: Climbing Mt Everest is not for the faint-hearted. STUDENT WORK AT HOME - Complete English Homework Practice 4020b. - Verbal Reasoning Practice 6 – VR4006a. - Learn the spelling test words. - Read the teacher notes on the exams.institute website, particularly the definitions for the reading comprehension passages. - Read each night for at least 30 minutes.
No additional spelling test this week. In week 5, students will be tested on the spelling words from both 4019b and 4020b. Part 1: Punctuation Teachers will need to go through the functions of the comma (page 2 of the booklet.)Page 3 is to be completed for homework.
