3 PART 1
4  HOMETOWN 1. Can you tell me about your hometown? My hometown is Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam. It’s a vibrant city with a rich history that dates back over a thousand years. Hanoi is known for its unique blend of traditional Vietnamese culture and French colonial influences, which you can see in the architecture, especially around the Old Quarter. 2. What do you like most about your hometown? What I love most about Hanoi is its unique atmosphere, especially around the Old Quarter and Hoan Kiem Lake. There’s always something happening, and it’s a place where modern life coexists with ancient temples and traditional markets. I also enjoy the variety of street food; Hanoi’s food culture is amazing and very affordable. 3. Has your hometown changed much in recent years? Yes, Hanoi has changed quite a lot, especially in terms of infrastructure and development. New buildings, shopping malls, and transport facilities are popping up rapidly, and it’s become much more modern. However, some of the traditional neighborhoods and markets have managed to retain their charm, which is nice to see. 4. Do you think your hometown is a good place for young people to live? I think Hanoi offers a lot for young people, from good job opportunities to an active social scene. There are plenty of cafes, entertainment options, and cultural activities that appeal to young adults. However, the traffic can be a bit overwhelming, and the cost of living is rising, which might be challenging for some. 5. Is there anything you don’t like about your hometown? One thing I don’t enjoy is the air quality, especially during the winter months when pollution levels tend to rise. The city’s rapid growth has also led to more traffic congestion, which can be frustrating. Additionally, the noise level is quite high, so finding a peaceful spot can be challenging. 6. Would you like to live in your hometown in the future? I think I would, but perhaps in a quieter area or the outskirts where the air is cleaner and it’s less crowded. Hanoi has so much to offer, and I feel a strong connection to it. However, I’d also be open to living abroad for a while to gain new experiences. 7. Are there any special traditions or festivals in your hometown? Yes, Tet, or Lunar New Year, is the most significant festival in Hanoi, as it is across Vietnam. During Tet, families gather, and the streets are decorated with red lanterns and flowers. There’s also the Mid-Autumn Festival, when the city hosts parades, lion dances, and mooncake sharing, which is wonderful for families and children.
