THE DUNGEON Overview A full standard run through the dungeon in Backpack Hero consists of 3 total Areas, each with 3 floors. Floors 1 and 2 of an Area are randomized layouts, but Floor 3 is always a set Finale floor containing a boss battle. Each area has unique enemies, bosses, and random events. Some quests will ask you to travel to a specific area with a certain item in your backpack, to locate a specific NPC, defeat a certain enemy, etc. Finale Floors The third floor of each dungeon area always has a set layout and events. Boss Battle - The boss of each area is always chosen at random from 2-3 different bosses unique to that area, with some exceptions for story events. It must be defeated before any other events on that floor can be accessed. Healer - Starts appearing once the Deep Caves area is unlocked. Parcel - Complete one run of Deep Caves, then talk to Parcel in town. He will then appear in all future runs on Finale floors. Treasure - If this is the final floor of the run, this will be a special treasure chest containing your reward for completion, including any special run rewards. Don’t forget to put them into your backpack before you leave the dungeon! If this is not your final floor, this will be a regular treasure chest with the usual random assortment of items. Staircase - These lead to the next area of the dungeon. Areas you haven’t unlocked yet appear as locked doors. If this is the final floor of your run, the staircase will be replaced with a door leading back to town. Remember to grab your reward before leaving! Unlocking New Areas Only The Crypt is unlocked by default. All other areas (except for Area 4) are unlocked by completing Special Runs that reward Lost Sparks, and delivering them to Matthew in town. In exchange for Lost Sparks, Matthew will give the player a key leading to a new area. To access your new area, begin a new run and progress until you find the staircase symbol for that area on your map. With the exception of The Bramble, they’re found on Finale floors after beating the boss). Move to the staircase, then interact with the locked door to use the key. This will unlock that area for all future runs, excluding special runs limited to certain floors. Deep Caves – Unlock Matthew, then speak to him in town to unlock the research for the Key to the Deep Caves. Complete any non-Standard run that rewards a Lost Spark, then deliver it to Matthew back in town to receive the key. Progress through the dungeon until you defeat the boss of The Crypt. Move to the staircase leading to Deep Caves, then interact with the locked door to use the key.
