Prior to commencement of work, layout should be approved by the Engineer-In-Charge and bench marks established on site to check the levels. Block Demarcations shall be done by surveyor. B. Excavation: a. The area to be excavated shall be properly marked and cleared from shrubs and vegetation before starting excavation work. b. Excavation by mechanical means should be carried out up to minimum of 200 mm above from desired finish level. Remaining 200mm depth shall be excavated manually. c. The depth of excavation shall be periodically checked to avoid over excavation. d. All excavated material shall be kept minimum of 3 meters away from the edge of excavation or shall be dumped in to the area designated by the Engineer-In-Charge e. For all excavation activities, adequate safety barriers, sign boards, advance warning signs would be used. f. For foundation, as soon as the excavation reaches the required depth/elevation the surface shall be leveled and compacted by earth compactor. . C. Back filling work: a. Shuttering, Scaffolding and reinforcement bar should be removed from the area before start the back filling. b. Backfilling shall be done in layers of maximum 1 meter. c. Back filling followed with compaction by the earth compactor shall continue till final level is achieved. d. Surface shall be compacted to 95% of maximum dry density. It should be tested by Core cutter.
