Introduction / Chapters 9 - 12 Chapter 13 (1/2) Two hours were allotted for the afternoon break. The class teacher–twenty plus years old, in the flower of her youth–went around the field to gather everyone with a loudspeaker in her hand, burnt by the sun until her cheeks were entirely red and shouting until her beautiful bell-like voice became a broken gong. Linan Affiliate Primary School’s new campus was rather far from Lake Taochong, and even further from Railway Fourth Bureau. Hence, Qiao Fengtian didn’t intend to take Xiao-Wu’zi home and thought of just looking for a small eatery and making do with a simple meal. Zheng Siqi wanted to share a table with them but alas, Lu Yiming cut in with a phone call. The moment she heard that Zheng Siqi was at Linan Affiliate Primary School’s new campus, right by the office building where she worked, she earnestly wanted to take the chance to treat little Zheng Yu whom she had yet to meet to a meal. Having tactfully turned her down three times previously, Zheng Siqi could not bring himself to tactfully turn her down for a fourth time. He sighed inwardly. “Alright, Zao’er and I will wait for you at the entrance, okay?” When Lu Yiming rushed there, she was wearing a peacock blue high-waisted embroidered pleated dress that brought out the fairness of her skin such that it had the lustrous white of snow. She wore a short lead grey cardigan over the dress and she carried a palm-sized little leather pouch. Her steps were hurried and a perfumed wind carrying an expensive scent wafted by. As usual, the makeup on her face was extremely delicate and meticulously applied.
When she saw Zheng Yu, Lu Yiming bent down and handed a bag of colourful macarons to her with a smile. She also brushed away the wispy hair on Zheng Yu’s forehead. “This is the first time we meet. You’re very cute.” For a moment, Zheng Yu stared at the macarons, studying them. Zheng Siqi reached out and gave her shoulder a squeeze; the little missy immediately understood and following the principle of “there’s no such thing as a free lunch,” said, “Thank you, Auntie. You’re very pretty too!” Lu Yiming’s glossy lips immediately curved even deeper, a beautiful shape. Qiao Fengtian led Xiao-Wu’zi towards the commercial area next to the school entrance. When they passed by Zheng Siqi, he snapped his fingers behind the other man’s back. “We’re leaving first.” Zheng Siqi turned around. “Hey, after lunch, we’ll head straight to the bleachers to look for you two?” Hearing that, Lu Yiming turned her head slightly, her gaze peeking out questioningly over Zheng Siqi’s shoulder. Qiao Fengtian met her eyes for a couple of seconds, momentarily dazzled by her thick, gleaming lashes, and was the first to turn his head away. “Sure.” Lu Yiming was familiar with the dining options there. She led the two of them through a small forested park to go to a Hong Kong-style restaurant located next to a pond. Lu Yiming walked a step ahead and turned back to smile at Zheng Siqi. “The HR manager of this restaurant is my senior high school friend and always gives me the best seat.”
