WRITING 5 – STATIC CHART   Recording: Exam question 1 The chart below shows estimated world illiteracy rates by region and by gender for the year 2000. INTRODUCTION (Paraphrase the question) The bar chart illustrates global illiteracy rates in the year 2000, broken down/ segmented by gender and region.

In contrast, illiteracy was far less prevalent in the other parts of the world. Developed countries demonstrate near-universal literacy, as only 1% of males and 2% of females in this region did not know how to read and write. The gender gap/ disparity was slightly larger in East Asia and Oceania, where the figure for illiterate females (20%) being more than double that for males (8%). It is notable that only in Latin America and the Caribbean was there little disparity between the two gender cohorts, with both men and women experiencing illiteracy rates of around 10%. gender group ~ gender cohort ~ gender demographic 4 layouts: US, Japan, Vietnam, and Germany the typical Japanese office has greater capacity than its Vietnamese counterpart
Exam question 2 The graph below shows the percentage of unemployed people aged between 15 and 24 in five European countries in 2005, compared with the overall percentage of unemployment in those countries. The graph compares the unemployment rate of 15 to 24-year-olds to that of the general population in five European countries in 2005. What is most striking when looking at the data is that youth unemployment dwarfed overall unemployment in all countries surveyed, with the largest gaps being seen in Italy and Hungary. It is also important to note that Poland faced the most severe unemployment situation overall, with the highest rates for both young people and the general population.
