Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla Semester I Academic Session 2024-25 Paper Code: LM-102 Page3 Course Outline and Teaching-Learning Plan The Course Content is divided into four modules, each module consists of five sub topics. The number of lectures to be delivered for each sub topic and contents covered under the sub topic is specified briefly. The course shall be covered by classroom lecture of 45 hours (45 classes) in addition to tutorials, assignments-presentations, examinations and other activities. Each Module must have minimum of 10 classes, however, all four modules must be finished in not less than 45 classes. S.N o. Sub-modules Number of Lectures Content Covered Module 1: General Dialogue/Disclosure on ‘Law’ and Justice 1.1 Dominant Perspective(s) from the west Hart/Dworkin/Legal Pluralism. 3 The sub-topic will cover essentials of contemporary theories of Hart and Dworkin. For assessment of legal theories discussion on Radbruch and Chhatrapati Singh will be relied. Pluralism is the dominant movement in law accordingly Sally Engle Merry, Sally Falk Moore, Griffiths, Tamanaha, R. Williams, and Baxi shall be discussed. 1.2 Does there exist a Non-Western Perspective? 2 The sub-topic is intended to have exploratory discussion on developing alternative understanding of law. Insights from legal pluralism, history, sociology and anthropological studies are expected to be drawn for discussion on the subject. 1.3 Perspective from the South(Indian Perspective only) 2 The sub-topic is intended to look at law, in a diachronic method of social and institutional practices, in the Indian historical context of law,
