Renal Physiology -01 Kidney: functions of kidneys. Renal circulation: peculiarities with functional Importance. Nephron.
Nephron: Nephron is the structural and functional unit of the kidney. Each kidney contains about 1 million nephrons. The kidney cannot regenerate new nephrons. Therefore, with renal injury, disease or normal aging, there is a gradual decrease in nephron number. After the age of 40, the number of functioning nephrons usually decrease about 10% every 10 years; thus, at the age 80, many people have 40 percent fewer functioning nephrons than they did at age 40.
Parts of Nephron: It consists of two parts: 1) Renal corpuscle 2) Renal tubule.
