And injustice committed by them towards Muslims? 1. INTRODUCTION: In 1937, important elections took place in India. These elections let people choose their leaders to run the government. Congress ministries were formed, where Congress party members became leaders in various states. This was a significant step towards self-governance in India. 2. THE MANIFASTO OF MUSLIM LEAGUE:
• Protection of Muslim Rights: The Muslim League aimed to safeguard the rights and interests of Muslims in India. • Autonomy for Muslim-majority Areas: The League demanded greater political autonomy for regions with a significant Muslim population. • Separate Electorate: They advocated for a separate electorate for Muslims, ensuring their representation and a voice in the political process. • Social and Economic Justice: The manifesto called for equal opportunities and fair treatment for Muslims in matters of education, employment, and economic development. • Religious Freedom: The League emphasized the importance of preserving religious freedom and ensuring that Muslim practices and beliefs were respected. • Cultural Identity: They sought to protect and promote the cultural identity of Muslims, including their language and traditions. • Representation in Government: The League aimed to secure adequate Muslim representation in government bodies and institutions. • Land Reforms: The manifesto supported land reforms that would benefit Muslim farmers and improve their socio-economic conditions. • Protection of Minorities: The League pledged to work towards the welfare and protection of religious and ethnic minorities. • Unity and Cooperation: While advocating for Muslim rights, the League also aimed to foster unity and cooperation among different communities in India. 3. THE FORMATION OF CONGRESS MINISTRIES: As a result of provincial elections the congress was able to form its Governments in seven provinces in which the Muslims were in minority. It refused to take Muslims in the ministries. The congress rule opened a new chapter in the political history of India. The congress ministries policies were pro-Hindu and Anti-Muslims
they did their best to crush Muslims. In the following headings, we shall discuss the injustices and atrocities committed to Muslims. 4. ATROCITIES AND INJUSTICE COMMITTED BY THE CONGRESS MINISTRIES BETWEEN 1937 TO 1939 AGAINST MUSLIMS: During the period between 1937 and 1939, when Congress ministries were in power, there were instances of atrocities and injustices committed to Muslims. • Communal Rights: There were incidents where the communal rights of Muslim community were not respected, leading to tensions and conflicts among different groups. • Interference in Official Matters: Congress ministries always interfered in official matters, which leads to favoritism and unfair treatment in government processes. • Injustice in the Courts: Reports of unjust treatment or bias in the courts were observed during this time, undermining the principles of justice and equality. • Ban on Cow Slaughtering: The imposition of bans on cow slaughtering created conflicts and infringed upon the dietary practices of Muslims. • Injustice to Muslims in Government Jobs: There were instances where Muslims have faced discrimination in government job opportunities, depriving them of equal representation. • Compulsory Idol Worship: Reports of imposing compulsory idol worship practices have infringed upon religious freedom and beliefs. • Salute to Congress Flag: Enforcing the salute to the Congress flag have led to concerns about freedom of expression and allegiance. • Band-e-Matram as a National Anthem: The imposition of a particular national anthem has disregarded the sentiments of Muslim community.
• Playing Bands Before the Mosque: Playing bands near mosques have been seen as disrespectful and insensitive to religious practices. • Disrespect of Holy Things: Instances of disrespect towards holy symbols or objects hurts religious sentiments of Muslims. • Wardha Schemes: Some policies or schemes implemented in the Wardha region led to social and economic disparities. • Muslim Mass-Contact Movement: The manner in which the Muslim Mass-Contact Movement was carried out raised concerns about its impact on communal harmony. 5. CONCLUSION: To conclude I can say that during the period between 1937 and 1939, when Congress ministries were in power, there were instances of atrocities and injustices committed to Muslims.
