TEMPLATE RESUME GUIDE Part 1 - CANDIDATE OVERVIEW What do I need to write in this section? The goal of this section is to highlight your experiences, contributions, and achievements in your current field. Keep it short, but complete. We recommend that your summary is at least five (5) to ten (10) sentences. Make sure to keep it concise and relevant. Here are a few tips to help you write your overview: DOs DON’Ts Express your relevant work experience in quantifiable terms. Avoid describing your experiences in superlative form and non-quantifiable terms. Include certifications if any. You may include current training or classes that you have recently taken or currently taking that are relevant to our role. Don’t include unnecessary adjectives. Highlight significant contributions and achievements from former projects and exposure to different industries.
For fresh graduates, highlight your significant accomplishments in college, projects accomplished, internship experience, relevant training courses, and other relevant information to build your career portfolio. Write from the third-person point of view (or outsider looking in). Use 3rd person pronouns like he, she, his, and her in writing this section. Part 2 - SUMMARY OF SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS What is this? This part is a breakdown of your skills and years of experience in each technology. A few things to keep in mind while writing this part of your resume: ● In indicating your experience please indicate the specific length of time. ● Make sure to only include professional experiences. (For fresh graduates, only technologies used during internship should be included.) ● If a category is not applicable to you, instead of indicating N/A you may delete that row:
● If you do not have any certifications, you may delete this entire section: Part 3 - EMPLOYMENT AND PROJECT HISTORY How do I properly write this section? Like any resume, make sure to highlight the necessary information to help you be considered for the project. For fresh graduates, only include technologies used during your internship. Here are a few reminders in effectively writing this part of your resume: 1. Indicate employment history with your employer from the start date to present: 2. Organize your employer and projects chronologically starting from your current to your oldest project; and
3. Do not disclose the name of your project, always use a generic easily-understandable title or description. You may refer to this file for examples. What if I get promoted under the same project how will it be reflected in my template resume? All you have to do is edit your job title in the Employer section. Similar to normal resumes used for employment, only your current level is relevant.
