3 advice would you give them? B: I think I'd advise them to pay a lot of attention to the quality of the actual broadcast, you know, the sound system. People are very fussy these days about that and in general, I think they ought to do lots more of these kinds of interview, you know, talking with their potential customers (7). A: Oh, I'm glad you think it's valuable! B: Certainly ... yeah. A: Good. OK, this will be a commercial channel of course, but how often do you think it is tolerable to have adverts? B: Well out of that list I'd say every quarter of an hour (8). I don't think we can complain about that, as long as they don't last for ten minutes each time! A: Quite. And ... would you be willing to attend any of our special promotions for the new channel? B: Yes, I'd be very happy to, as long as they're held here in my area (9). A: OK, I'll make a note of that. And finally, may we put you on our mailing list? B: Well, I'd prefer not... except for the information about the promotion you mentioned (10). A: Can I have your name and address? B: Of course ... here's my card. A: Oh, lovely... and thank you very much for your time and we look forward to seeing you. B: Yes, indeed. Um, thanks. PART 2. Questions 1-5. (1.0 point) You will hear a weather forecast. Decide if each sentence is T (True) or F (False). 0. It will start raining at lunchtime today in the east. F 1. The weather in the north-west will be worse than in the south. T 2. There will be thunder in Leeds tonight. F 3. Most of England will be hot this week. T 4. Wet weather will move from the north to the south at the weekend. T 5. It will stay hot when the rain comes. F TRANSCRIPT Hello and good morning! Well, we’re off to a good start in the south this week, as most of the rain from the weekend has disappeared – just a few patches of cloud and maybe some showers here on the east coast. They’ll all clear up by lunchtime, though (0). Over the next day or so, London and the area around Kent can expect a couple of isolated showers, but mostly dry through until Thursday. It’s not such good news for the north-west this week, I’m afraid: more wet weather, and not a lot of sunshine. Some of today’s showers will be heavy – and even thundery in Manchester and across the Pennines (1). Leeds will escape the thunderstorms, with
4 drizzle and light rain only throughout the rest of the day and tonight (2). Elsewhere it becomes dry today, but with some foggy patches towards Wales. In England, tomorrow morning will see a dry, bright start in most places, with high temperatures throughout the week. We might see one or two thunderstorms appearing as the week goes on, with temperatures everywhere at 29 to 30 degrees (3). By the weekend, unfortunately, the dry weather will make way for mostly cloudy skies and rain. The rain will move from Scotland, down towards the north and reach the south coast by Saturday afternoon (4). Temperatures, at least, will stay mostly warm at around 21 degrees for the weekend. It might feel like a nice change from the high twenties and early thirties we’ll see in the week (5). That’s all from me until tomorrow. Enjoy the mini-heatwave while you can! PART 3.
