CASE: Clinical History: A 20 year old male complained of fever with chills, severe headache, myalgia, followed by petechial rash all over the body. O/E: there is bleeding gums, jaundice and multiple petechiae seen over the skin. Laboratory investigation: Parameters Normal range 1. WBC -6500/ul 4000- 11000/ul 2. Hb-14.5g/dl 13.5 – 17.5 g/dl 3. Platelet-30000/uL 1.5 lakh- 4 lakh/ul 4. BT-9mins 2–6 mins 5. CT-9mins 8-15mins 6. PT- 12 secs 10 – 14 seconds 7. aPTT-30secs 30 – 40 seconds On peripheral smear- RBC’s are normochromic normocytic Differential WBC count - Polymorph-68%, Lymphocytes-30%, Eosinophil-2% Platelet- 3 to 4/oil immersion field, Morphology normal Lepto/Dengue IgM test- Positive (BT – bleeding time, CT- clotting time, PT- prothrombin time, aPTT activated partial thromboplastin time) This is a case of thrombocytopaenia caused due to Dengue infection.
