PSAD 19: Influence Diagram on Beams This module discusses how to draw and use the influence line diagram of beams on the different quantities: Reaction, Shear, and Bending moment. In addition, its application, the Moving Loads, will also be discussed (2 and 3 axle loads, and uniform loads with unlimited length) The most suggested method for board exam purposes is the Muller-Breslau Principle. Here, one can release the quantity being analyzed and then let the beam rotate and translate based on the support conditions only. Each segment in this module shows possible figures for the influence line based on different conditions: support at ends, with internal hinges, etc. 1. Reactions Usually, this group of quantities are referring to the vertical component of the reactions. The unit displacement is always placed at the location of the support. 1.1. Support at the end span 1.2. Support within the span (case of overhanging beams)
1.3. With internal hinges Note: Other ordinates in the influence lines can be determined using similarities. 2. Shear By releasing the shear force in a member, a beam is divided into two segments. The left segment being pushed downwards while the right being pushed upwards. Both ends of the cut portion must have a total deformation of 1 unit. 2.1. Within span 2.2. With internal hinges

3.3. At overhang 3.4. With internal hinges
