Its multi-layered experience is common yet complex. Note the changes in behaviors that may demonstrate the less obvious signs of sadness. You can then help the child to label the experience of sadness
35 | P a g e Parents try to hide their sadness from children to show them all is always okay. It is beneficial for a child to witness adults expressing sadness. It is alright to say, "I am sad, too." This normalizes the child's sorrow and demonstrates that feelings are not something they need to try to mask or feel ashamed of. Children feel sad very quickly, even for seemingly insignificant reasons. Remember that even when the child's feelings feel trivial to you as an adult, they are essential and natural from the child's perspective. It's natural to experience sadness. So long as your unhappiness does not last too long or understandingly. Sad feelings —are just a normal part of life. Happiness is our choice, and so we must remember 1. You can feel sad without it taking over your world. 2. There are ways to choose if you feel sad and wish to be your usual self again. Sadness can feel very lonely Coping With Sad Feelings In the classroom, allowing a child to be sad will exemplify tolerance and Respect. • Creative activities can be an excellent outlet for constructively expressing sad feelings. Avoid saying, "Don't feel sad," encourage your child to draw a picture about how they are feeling, sing, dance, or build something. • Introduce mindfulness. When your child is sad, encourage him to try pranayam. To enhance the flow of oxygen and slow their heartbeat, creating a physical sense of calm. • Visualizing–or imagining–a calm, safe place, like the playroom, playground scenes from their favourite cartoon, or a park, can help them feel more peaceful, For mentors, There's Hope for self-care! There are no deadlines to overcome sadness; depending on why the child is sad, the child learns how to cope and feel happy again over time. If the reason is trivial to the child, the child may move on faster.

Once you are done being sad, how to move on? Moving on is a choice. Sad feelings don't have ruin things. You can choose to feel better. Some simple ways to deal with sad feelings: 1. Notice your feeling. Understanding without feeding your sadness help you be aware of it without being overwhelmed by it. 2. Cultivate a belief in second chances and the cyclical nature of our existence. This belief will help you get your sadness into the perspective of it being season/temporary 3. Count meaningful times. Look around yourself and note down one best(of all the not so great things that happened to you through the day---- even if initially you will only find bad worse and worst—focus on bad and acknowledge how it dint get any worse! 4. Believing that you have no choice is also a choice- remember that. See If you wish to choose differently in the given situation; if so, what and why.
