ii PREFACE Studying literature allows learners to discover a world of inspiration and creativity while enhancing their critical thinking skills through interpretation and analysis of literary pieces. To ensure the learners acquire the needed skills in various disciplines, this AdZU – SHS RIGHT Learning Kit for ENG 121 : 21st Century Literature from the Philippines and the World is aligned to the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs) of the K-12 Basic Education Curriculum set by the Department of Education. This course, as stipulated in the MELCs and Curriculum Guide, aims to allow the learners to demonstrate communicative competence through their understanding of Philippine and World Literature for a deeper appreciation of the Philippine culture. Specifically, learners will be able to understand and appreciate the elements and contexts of the 21st century Philippine literature from the regions and literary texts in various genres across national literature and culture. The lessons are divided into two major components: the midterm will focus on the geographic, linguistic, and ethnic dimension of Philippine literary history from pre-colonial to the contemporary including the literary genres and themes. The second half of the quarter will discuss the literary devices, techniques, and elements. The final term of the course will revolve around the representative texts from the literatures of the world. The competencies of the learners will be measured through a written close analysis and critical interpretation of literary texts, employing critical approaches, and an adaptation of a text into various creative multimedia forms. The RIGHT Learning Kit is collaboratively prepared by your English instructors and checked by the Quality Assurance Team of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University – Senior High School for the school year 2025-2026.
