Upright Conduct i

Upright Conduct i Introduction Education is not just about acquiring knowledge but about shaping character and strengthening one’s faith. This book, Reinforcing Good Manners in Everyday Life: Upright Conduct, is designed to guide Grade 4 students in developing moral virtues and deepening their relationship with Jesus Christ. By harmonizing Good Manners and Right Conduct (GMRC) with Christian Living Education (CLE), this book provides a path for students to live with integrity, kindness, and faith. At the center of this book is Jesus, our Divine Teacher, who calls each student to grow in wisdom and love. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) states that “Christian education... is intended to make men and women capable of living as children of God” (CCC 1653). Every lesson in this book is an opportunity to follow Christ, reflect His goodness, and practice virtues that build a strong moral foundation. Encountering Jesus Through the Lessons This book ensures that students develop both moral strength and spiritual wisdom by harmonizing GMRC and CLE in a Christ-centered approach. GMRC helps them cultivate respect, responsibility, and compassion, while CLE deepens their faith and understanding of Jesus’ teachings. Quarter 1: Discovering Goodness in Ourselves and in Christ • GMRC: Developing Self-Awareness and Good Habits • CLE: Foundational Topics – Understanding the Core Teachings of the Faith This quarter focuses on self-awareness and developing good habits. Students learn that their talents and virtues are gifts from God and that practicing good conduct reflects His love. The Catechism teaches that “the dignity of the human person is rooted in his creation in the image and likeness of God” (CCC 1700). By understanding themselves and their strengths, students are drawn closer to Jesus, who calls them to use their abilities for good. Quarter 2: Strengthening Faith and Love within the Family • GMRC: Family as a Guide to Good Conduct • CLE: Spiritual Life – Deepening One’s Relationship with God through Prayer and Sacraments
ii Reinforcing Good Manners in Everyday Life - Grade 4 Students explore the role of family in shaping their character, learning how obedience, respect, and love create a nurturing home. Just as Jesus lived in the Holy Family (Luke 2:52), children recognize that family life is a foundation for moral and spiritual growth. The Catechism teaches that “prayer is the life of the new heart” (CCC 2697), emphasizing how prayer strengthens family bonds and deepens one’s faith. Quarter 3: Living Christ’s Teachings in Our Relationships • GMRC: Cultivating Good Habits with Others • CLE: Moral Life – Christian Values, the Commandments, and the Beatitudes This quarter emphasizes building strong relationships through kindness, respect, and service. The Beatitudes remind us that “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8). The Catechism states that “the moral life is a response to God’s call” (CCC 1691), encouraging students to practice honesty, fairness, and humility as they interact with others. Quarter 4: Becoming Christ’s Light in the Community • GMRC: Community Treasures as Nurturers of Good Conduct • CLE: Pastoral Life – Catholic Social Teachings and Community Service Students learn that being part of a community means contributing to its well-being. As members of the Church and society, they are called to be responsible citizens and active participants in service. The Catechism states that “the human being is meant to live in society” (CCC 1879). Through involvement in initiatives such as Pondo ng Pinoy, Alay Kapwa, and parish activities, students learn how small acts of kindness can transform their communities. Shaping the Heart for Christ This book aims to form students into responsible individuals and faithful followers of Jesus. Through GMRC, they learn to act with integrity and grace, while CLE helps them understand their faith and live according to God’s will. Every lesson is an invitation to reflect Christ’s goodness in their daily lives. With Jesus as their guide, may every student who reads this book be inspired to live with love, serve with joy, and grow in holiness. As they discover the beauty of good manners and faith, may they always remember: Jesus is with them, leading them in the path of righteousness.
