Do you think the advantages of this document outweigh the disadvantages? It is true that language can now be translated automatically by computers and mobile devices thanks to advances made in technology. I think that the benefits of this development outshine the drawbacks involved as automatic translators, despite possibly producing errors, can translate various languages in a short period of time. The most evident shortcoming of machine translation can be a lower level of accuracy. This is because there are thousands of words carrying different meanings based on the contexts in which the words are used, which is generally considered a significant challenge for robots since they cannot understand contexts compared to their human counterparts. This challenge is further aggravated by grammar which includes sentence patterns as well as different sets of rules, meaning that this linguistic feature can even complicate the issue. For example, a simple sentence in English consists of a subject, a verb, and often coupled with an object, yet not every language shares the same structure, which can lead to translation programs producing some inaccuracies. Nevertheless, I think that electronic translators can bring greater benefits in terms of speed and a variety of languages. Regarding the former, it is irrefutable that computer programs can translate texts much faster than human translators, making the former a much better option when the time given is limited or when only an approximate or summary translation is needed. Concerning the second advantage, artificial intelligence software is capable of translating multiple languages. An illustrative instance of this is Google Translate, as it can instantly recognise and translate up to one hundred languages, thereby being used basically throughout the entire world. In conclusion, although machine translation software can produce less accurate texts, faster translation and the range of language options it can offer are undeniably convenient. Do you think the advantages of charging people for admission to museums outweigh the disadvantages? Several museums impose an admission charge while others do not. This essay argues that the drawbacks are eclipsed by the benefits involved because imposing such a charge, despite leading to a decrease in the number of visitors, can help museums to generate more revenues for further development. The main disadvantage is that high entrance fees may exclude a substantial proportion of the population. Some may say that museums offer a source of inspiration and education for creative industries such as arts and therefore should be free for all members of the public. Introducing a charge, thus, can deter potential visitors, depriving them of their opportunities to enjoy and learn from the exhibitions. Perhaps the group most affected by such a charge would be students majoring arts or history as well as people with a low income. Nevertheless, I think that this can be solved by a flexible charging scheme that does not levy charges on certain days of week, which can allow this group of citizens to have free access to museums. In my opinion, the benefits of levying an entrance fee are more significant because money generated from such a fee can allow for sustainable development of museums. This is of great importance since various museums are not funded by the governments and their operation totally depends on money raised from exhibitions. Coupled with this is that institutions need to expand and adapt to museumgoers’ insights and taste in order to attract more visitors, which can require a huge investment. This is why several famous museums such as the Louvre have to rely on entrance fees to stay open. In conclusion, although introducing entrance fees would lead to a decline in attendance figures, a stable source of income is favourable to museums in terms of operation. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages? Children's tuition fees can be quite high in some countries and therefore are paid by their governments. I am of the opinion that the disadvantages of such financial aid are eclipsed by the beneficial effects that it can produce. The idea of public bodies financing children’s education can be detrimental in terms of the indoctrination of children. The reason for this is that the government can propagandize young students and teach them a biased or false version of history. An extreme example of this is North Korea where the authorities use education as a means of instilling blind nationalism into their citizens and creating a perception that the government is always right and has the ultimate power. This phenomenon, however, only emerges in a few particular nations, and its impacts seem to be less significant compared to North Korea. In my opinion, the benefits of this aid are of greater importance partly because it helps ease the financial burden and partly because it improves the future employability of several people. With regard to the former, this financial support will greatly benefit children whose parents fail to meet the cost. Some charities and organizations may as well provide help to a certain extent, but their contributions would be limited. On a societal level, eliminating school fees allows every child to gain access to basic education which may equip them with fundamental knowledge and skills to enter the labor market after graduating. In conclusion, although a few governments may use free education as a tool of false propaganda, waiving tuition fees for children would alleviate the burden on their parents and enhance their career prospects. Therefore, I hold the belief that the advantages of this development clearly overshadow the drawbacks involved. (294 words)

Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages? Some academics are pushing the idea that elementary school is the more advisable place for learning a foreign language instead of secondary school. Personally, the benefits of this idea are eclipsed by the elicited drawbacks, as there are other more important subjects at primary age, such as basic mathematics or mother tongue language. Advocates for this notion may point to the higher levels of language proficiency gained in younger children. They may well argue that children are naturally gifted at learning new concepts when they are young, which means that they should be introduced to a foreign language as soon as possible. This line of reasoning has been strengthened by mounting evidence showing younger brains are especially receptive to language learning. It is therefore logical for linguists to believe that children can acquire a native-like level of fluency when starting to learn at a very young age. The truism is further established as the evolving body of research also shows the deterioration of human brains starting at ages later than primary. In my opinion, studying a foreign language at a young age is quite excessive as students have to master more important subjects, such as arithmetic and their mother tongue. Concerning the former, arithmetical skills are fundamental to critical thinking, problem-solving ability, and quick intuition, which children in early school days have not fully developed. However, cramming extra bilingual lessons in primary schools would exert more academic pressures, further discouraging the young from learning fundamental subjects, including maths. Secondly, learning a foreign language at an early age would unintentionally hinder a child’s first language. This is because younger students are still in the process of learning their native language, meaning that learning a new one at this stage may lead to confusion and ultimately delayed language development. In conclusion, although learning other languages at elementary ages can facilitate the language acquisition process, I am still of the opinion that the merits are far outweighed by the aforementioned demerits.
