I’ve been worki full time as a tour guide for a foreign company in Hanoi city for five years. Why did you choose your job? I have a particular interest in traveling and want to visit various destinations in the world. Only by working for an international agency, could I make my dream come true. Furthermore, it is a multicultural/ international company so I thought that I would make friends with many people from the four corners of the world. Is it easy to work for your company? Well, working for my company is not an easy task because it requires a great deal of time and effort. For example, I am always on the go due to my tight schedules, so I don't have much time for my family. However, we have a team-oriented workplace, so I can ask my colleagues for help if I run into difficulties. Working for my company is an uphill battle for me because my job requires a lot of time and effort. Furthermore, it is an international company so I need to be good at languages and communication skills to collaborate with my colleagues. (Luckily, colleagues often put themselves in my shoes and motivated me a lot so I feed off the energy from them/ I feed off their enthusiasm and inspiration.) What did you want to do when you were a kid? To tell you the truth, I dreamt of becoming a tour guide which could help me go to the four corners of the world. Actually, I am trying my best to make my dream come true. ● To the best of my recollection, when I was a little boy, I wanted to follow in my parents’ footsteps to become a journalist. They were both reporters and writing was in my blood; however, then I realized that I had a knack for learning languages so I tried to have a good command of English to become a tour guide/ an English teacher. ( However, as time went by, I had a change of heart) What do you like about your job/ study? I love my job because of two main reasons. Firstly, it is a multinational company, so I work with many people from the four corners of the world and learn from them. Secondly, my colleagues are not only friendly but also kind, so if I run into problems, they will give me a hand with sound advice. What do you dislike about your job? My company is quite far from my house so it takes me a lot of time to commute to work. In addition, I'm always up to my ears in different tasks given by my boss so I don't have enough time for myself and my family. What do you want to change about your job in the future? If we had more modern working space with high-tech devices, we would work more effectively . In addition, I also want to have more training programs to improve my soft skills such as time management and teamwork skills.
Written by Thai Hoang Logic & Hiệu quả Contact/Zalo: 0983665262 | Page 2 Do you prefer working/studying in the morning or the afternoon? I guess most people would prefer working in the morning to the afternoon because they are full of energy after getting up. However, I am an exception because I just stay focused on my work in the afternoon. I am always up to my ears in my job and have to burn the midnight oil, so I feel tired in the morning and cannot stay on tasks. Is it important to have breaks during work? It is vitally important to have breaks during work as most people are under a lot of pressure from work. Break time can give people more energy and motivation to work effectively. We can take the weight off our feet/legs or talk with colleagues about some funny stories to relax after long working hours. Did you do a part time job in the past? I tried my hand at different jobs when I was a student to accumulate more practical experience. For example, my teamwork and communication skills were improved a lot as I worked as a waiter with a team in a restaurant 5 years ago. Furthermore, I was a bit strapped for cash so a temporary job helped me earn money to cover some basic needs in my life. Do you think money is the only thing which encourages employees to work harder? I think that money is a key consideration when working for a company but motivation also stems from other factors. For example, many people try to work around the clock due to promotion prospects. The higher position they get, the more satisfied they are. Will you change your job/school in the future? In the next few years, I still want to work for my company to accumulate as much experience and money as possible. However, in the long term, I would consider returning to my hometown to open a business by myself because I want to contribute to the development of my hometown and live with my parents to look after them. In the short term, I just want to focus on my work to carve a niche for myself in my company and move up the ladder. In the long term, I will consider starting my own business or coming back to my hometown. It’s on my horizons.
