If there are 100 million adults, and exactly 85 million truly own smartphones, then its proportion p = 85,000,000/100,000,000 = 0.85. then this 0.85 would be parameter STATISTIC We randomly select a Sample of 200 high school students. We measure their heights, let we found that the average of 200 students is 168.5 cm Then the 168.5 cm would be statistic We randomly survey a Sample of 1,500 adults from the country. We find that 1,275 of these 1,500 adults own a smartphone. The proportion from our sample is 1,275/1,500 = 0.85. This 0.85(p̂= 0.85) is a Statistic.
