KATIE SWAN Many tennis stars learnt how to play tennis when they could run and became professional before 18. Born in Bristol in 1999, Katie Swan was nothing like that. At the age of 7, she had her first tennis lessons just for fun while her family was enjoying their holiday in Portugal. Her parents didn't want her to get bored, so they hired a tennis coach to teach her how to play. After a week, the coach said that she might become a tennis superstar, but her parents burst into laughter. However, the coach was completely right. After her holiday, she began practising very hard on the tennis court and managed to study very well. She even made time to play hockey. After a few years, her father's business made him move to the USA, so Katie started living there with her family. She kept practising tennis in better weather conditions because it was usually sunny, and her skills quickly improved. When she turned 15, she was proud to be number two in the world as a junior player. One year later, she started to play for the British Tennis Team. Unfortunately, too much training caused a serious injury to her back. At the age of 17, she was competing in the Wimbledon Championships when she hurt her foot. The injury made her quit the tournament, so she was in floods of tears. Katie Swan is now one of the most promising young tennis players in the UK, and lots of tennis players admire her. Even though she's used to living far away from home, she sometimes feels homesick when staying in a strange hotel. She has a passion for international competitions, and she has won lots of them confidently, but she still gets nervous before an important match. 36. What happened to Katie when she was seven? A. She was bored, so she decided to play tennis. 37. What happened after her holiday in Portugal? A. Her parents didn't allow Katie to go to tennis practice. B.. Her parents wanted her to spend more time studying instead of playing tennis.
