INTRO: ... a number of reasons...+ overall / generally positive / negative BODY 1: WHY? - The sheer availability and affordability of advanced transport means (air planes) in recent years: international airfare – significantly dropped grant ample opportunity for people aspiring to explore different parts of the world - Material life – significantly enhanced there exists growing demands for recreation and exploration – taking an overseas trip – a way to fulfill this - The motivation and inspiration from travel vlogs on social media platforms Youtube / Facebook... incentivize viewers to travel abroad to experience, say, stunning landscapes or magnificent wildlife in person - The growing popularity of travel-related applications and services – provide tourists across the globe with easy access to accommodation and transportation when they pay a visit to foreign destinations BODY 2: POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE? - PROS: o The influx of holidaymakers from other nations acts as a driver of economic growth the increase in tourist spending on accommodation, food, transportation and other services – a major source of income for the locals + generate a colossal amount of revenues for the host country allocated for developing infrastructure and improving social welfare for its own residents o On an individual level: cross-border traveling – enable one to broaden his mind set foot on a different culture – gain an insight into how people in other parts of the world live and work such knowledge – come in useful in this ever-globalized era - CONS: o Massive international tourism – the very culprit of environmental damage in the host nation ... o International tourism – increase the odds of spreading infectious diseases into the local community ...
TASK 2: It is now possible for scientists and tourists to travel to remote areas with natural environments, such as the South Pole. Is this a positive or negative development? FULLY SUPPORT Given the availability of modern transportation means such as planes or cruise ships and refrigeration technologies, traveling to remote parts of the world is no longer a pipe-dream. Personally, I believe this possibility benefits both tourists and scientists alike. Exploring far-flung natural places can be beneficial to travelers. No matter how many tourist attractions are there in the world, globetrotters all around the world still crave novelty. By traveling to an island that is unknown to the vast majority of people, for instance, travelers may have a chance to participate in exotic religious practices of indigenous people, feast their eyes on rarely seen plants and animals, try new food and experience a whole new way of life. Although it is true that they can see these things on TV channels dedicated to travel, the experience is far inferior to experiencing such activities in person. Scientists can also benefit from visiting untouched parts of the world. Regardless of how much we already know about the world, there is still much that is unknown in the field of science and visiting such places could give scientists answers to many existing and future problems. We can see this in the way novel viruses break out every once in a while, and how global warming is affecting lives and habitats of elusive animals in heavily wooded areas and deep under the sea. If we understand more about such phenomena, we will be far more prepared for potential outbreaks that could kill millions in the future and help restore damaged habitats. In conclusion, visiting remote areas of the world can impart otherwise unachievable experiences and lessons in tourists and people in the scientific world. / In conclusion, I am convinced that exploring remote areas of the world is an overall positive development.
TASK 3: Some people think the money spent in developing the technology for space exploration is not justified. There are more beneficial ways to spend this money. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Some people have questioned the importance of space exploration, equating investing in these projects with squandering money. In my opinion, while the importance and benefits of space exploration are unquestionable, it is more reasonable to focus on tackling some environmental problems for the time being. On the one hand, it is sensible to spend money on space exploration because of several positive impacts it has on people's lives. Take telecommunication and GPS for example. Without space exploration, we could not have satellites orbiting the earth, thus enabling us to use our mobile phone anytime and anywhere. Likewise, we could not have navigation in our car or our phone to search for directions and, as a result, we may easily get lost and have to stop along the way to ask for others' help. Given these benefits, it is absurd to say that there is completely no point in supporting space exploration financially. However, there are many urgent global problems, namely pandemics and poverty, which are happening right on our planet and require serious investments. In specific, the COVID 19 pandemic has proved how vulnerable humans could be under the threat of the unknown dangerous viruses. To improve the situation and prevent potential disease outbreaks, governments should allocate more funding to the exploration of virus species and the development of suitable vaccines as well as treatments. Besides that, given the fact that people in many parts of the world are suffering from homelessness, extreme living conditions, or severe food shortages, spending money on space exploration seems to be a less proper use of financial resources. This amount of money should rather be spent on boosting economic development to generate more job opportunities, which would, in turn, help the poor escape from the poverty trap and ultimately improve human well-being. All things considered, although space exploration plays a certain role in people's lives, I am more convinced that, at this specific point, financial support should be given to other top-priority issues, such as pandemic and poverty.
