Nội dung text Preparing for a job interview in English

In the job interview with a foreign customer, be prepared that the conversation may start with general issues (weather, culture, hobbies). Therefore, find out interesting facts about the customer’s country, culture and field of activity beforehand; this will allow you to establish a confidence at the beginning of the job interview (the customer will perceive you as a person with a broad outlook). Before making the presentation, it is worth clarifying with the PM the core of the project, its business logic, main technologies, position requirements and responsibilities of the specialist, team size, team composition and structure of the current/future team (locally or remotely), the methodology the team is/will work on. The recommended structure of the presentation is: ● the presentation should be short (no longer than 7 min) and focus on your strengths; ● a summary of your experience in development/testing; ● a brief description of your projects; ● your experience from your last project (be prepared to answer questions about other projects as well); ● an overview of the project (what the project was for, the logic behind it); ● talk about the team on the project, the methodology you worked on and the activities you did; ● talk about your responsibilities on the project (what you did); ● talk about the tools you used; ● At the end of the presentation you should say something like “That’s all, if you have questions I would be delighted to answer them” - so that the interviewer understands you finished and it is OK to ask questions. During the presentation, an interviewer can interrupt and ask follow-up questions. It is necessary to understand the technologies named by you (how to work with the tools) in more detail (they may ask for details within the technology or what button/tab to press to make something happen, and where this button is placed or what its name is). There may also be tricky questions to check how you know and understand well what you are talking about. If you’re sure it’s a tricky question, show that you know it and give the right answer. The customer usually can see that you know about the issue, stop you and tell you it`s enough, so you can move on. The presentation should be a story, not a memorised poem. You need to convince the customer that what you are speaking about is not only your theoretic knowledge, but you have practical experience.
