CASE: Clinical history: A 13 year old boy came with complaint of fall during a game of football, followed by pain and swelling in right knee. On examination- Swelling of right knee with discolouration, bruising, tenderness and stiffness of joint. No evidence of bleeding gums or petechiae. X ray of knee shows: widened joint space and joint effusion. Past history: Boy had a past history of oozing for 72 hours after dental extraction procedure. His maternal uncle had prolonged bleeding after haemorrhoids’ surgery. Laboratory investigation: Parameters Normal range 1. WBC-5000/ul 4000-11000/ul 2. Hb-11g/dl 13.5 -17.5g/dl 3. Platelet-2.5lakh/ul 1.5 -4 lakh/ul 4. BT – 4mins 2 – 6 mins 5. CT- 22mins 8 – 15mins 6. PT-10 secs 10 – 14 seconds; PI 1.0 (normal 1.0) 7. aPTT- 60secs 30 – 40 seconds On mixing study – aPTT value got corrected. (BT – bleeding time, CT- clotting time, PT- prothrombin time, aPTT- activated partial thromboplastin time) This is a case of Haemophilia
