Mount Everest Mount Everest, the highest mountain on the Earth with 8,848 metres above the sea level, is part of the Himalaya range, and is located on the border between Nepal, and Tibet, China. It is called “Sagarmatha” in Nepal which means “goddess of the sky”, and the name in Tibet is “Chomolungma” which means “mother goddess of the universe”. In 1865 upon the recommendation of an English adventurer, the English name “Everest” became official.
