Date of planning: // Week : UNIT 8: TOURISM Period: Lesson 1: Getting started – You’ve got a nice tan I. OBJECTIVES By the end of this lesson, Ss will be able to: 1. Knowledge - Gain an overview about the topic Tourism - Gain vocabulary to talk about travel experience 2. Competences - Develop communication skills - Be collaborative and supportive in pair work and team work 3. Personal qualities - Develop communication skills and creativity - Be collaborative and supportive in pair work and teamwork - Actively join in class activities II. MATERIALS - Grade 9 textbook, Unit 8, Getting started - Computer connected to the Internet - Projector / TV - hoclieu.vn III. PROCEDURES Activity 1: Warm-up (5’) a. Aims:  – To create an active atmosphere in the class before the lesson – To lead into the new unit b. Content: - Chatting: Look at some pictures and answer the question c. Expected outcomes: - Having a chance to speak English and focus on the topic of the lesson. d. Organisation: Teacher’s and Ss’activities Content Warm up - Teacher shows the pictures (PPT slides) to the whole class. - Teacher asks students to look at some pictures and answer the question - Students answer the Q - Teacher elicits answers from students. - T leads to the new unit. Write the key word Tourism on the board. And ask Ss some Qs * Warm up: Chatting  Looking at these pictures, what topic do you think of ? TOURISM Have you ever been on a tour? Who planned the tour? What place would you like to visit? Activity 2: Presentation (10’) * Pre- teaching vocab a. Aims:  – To set the context for the introductory dialogue; – To introduce the topic of the unit. b. Content: - Vocabulary pre-teaching c. Expected outcomes:

+ Students work in pairs to compare answers. - T has Ss read out the statements and say if the statements are true or false.    - T checks the answers as a class and gives feedback. Task 3 - T asks Ss to work individually to match the words - Students work individually to do the activity. - T asks Ss to say the words aloud and share their answers with one or more partners. + Students share answers with one or more partners. - T checks the answers as a class and gives feedback. (With a stronger class, T can ask Ss to make some example sentences with the words they have learnt. If there is enough time, T can ask some Ss to write their answers on the board.)  Task 3: Match a word in A with a word in B as in the conversation. * Answer key: 1.c 2. d 3. a 4. e 5. b Task 4 - Ask Ss to do the exercise individually and then check with the whole class. - Ss work independently to complete the task - For a more able class, have Ss work in groups. Each group makes sentences with the words/phrases. Then they read aloud these sentences. - T checks the answers as a class and gives feedback. Task 4: Complete the sentences with the words and phrases from the box. * Answer key: 1. safari 2. domestic 3. online apps 4. sport tourism 5. destination Activity 4: Production:(5’) a. Aims:  -To give Ss an opportunity to find out how much they know about tourism in Viet Nam b. Content: - Task 5: Quiz: How much do you know about tourism in Viet Nam? c. Expected outcomes: - Ss can learn some facts about famous places in Vietnam d. Organisation Teacher’s and Ss’activities Content Task 5 - T asks Ss to play in two teams - Ss work in teams and follow the teacher's instruction. - Each team takes turns to choose a mystery box and answer one question. - The team which can earn more points becomes the winner. Task 5: Game: Mario. Answer questions about popular places in Vietnam. 1 Hue 2. Can Tho 3. Da Lat 4. Cao Bang 5. Quang Ninh Activity5: CONSOLIDATION (3’) a. Aims: To consolidate what students have learnt in the lesson.
b. Content: Talk about what they have learnt in the lesson c. Expected outcomes: Say aloud some words they remember from the lesson. d. Organisation: Teacher’s and Ss’activities Content - T asks Ss to talk about what they have learnt in the lesson. - Some new words related the topic - Read and understand content of the conversation * HOMEWORK (2’) a. Aims: To revise the lesson and prepare for the next lesson. b. Content: Review the lesson and prepare for the next lesson and do exersie in the workbbook c. Expected outcomes: Students’ textbook and workbook d. Organisation: Teacher’s and Ss’activities Content - Start preparing for the Project of the unit: + Ask Ss to open their books at the last page of Unit 8, the Project section. Ask Ss to look at the topic of the project and say what the product of the project is. (Making a plan for a two-day trip). - Learn new words and phrases by heart. - Start preparing for the Project of the unit: * Evaluation: ………………………………………………………………………………………………………… ………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
