Writing Week 7 4013b
Feedback on last week’s fable ● Remember to state the moral at the end of the story ● Be careful about using wizards and genies. Djinns are very similar. ● Also, you were asked not to use people characters. A fable could very quickly become more of a parable as found in the Christian bible. ● Name animals by their species. Eg. Wise Owl. The adjective that describes your character can also be in capital letters ● Title needs to have the animals name in it. ‘How the camel got its Hump’. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=- 2ldcNCGxSY How the camel got its Hump References a Djinn and has a human. ● Great to see nearly everyone writing in paragraphs ● People generally wrote an interesting story that fitted the prompt ● Good use of dialogue ● Good vocabulary and description ● language was generally simple and suitable for a fable Well done everyone!
Fable Checklist 1. The title includes the names of the main characters 2. Characters are named after their species. A tiger is just called Tiger (In capital letters) 3. Includes animal characters, but can have some human characters, if needed 4. The setting and characters are introduced in the opening sentences. 5. Action and dialogue between the two characters are used to move the story forward, including questions where appropriate. 6. As needed, briefly describe a character’s thoughts and feelings 7. Use time words where needed 8. The moral is clear, throughout the fable 9. The moral is clearly stated at the end
Writing Test 1 - Persuasive Writing Test 2 - Creative (Fable) “Should children have a vote in family decisions?” “Hard work pays off.” ● Great to see people planning ● Most wrote transition words, but try to write better ones than firstly, secondly etc. ● Language in a persuasive text needs to be more formal than a creative: no contractions (can’t) or first person ‘I’ statements. ● Also, formal language means that slang words such as ‘kids’ should be replaced with children ● Many people used rhetorical questions well. ● Examples to support your thinking needs to be more specific rather than general ● Most people structured their text in five paragraphs and wrote the paragraphs using TEEL. ● Some people need to edit their run-on sentences. ● Great to see most people planning ● Remember to write a title ● The moral or the lesson needs to be written at the end. This will help you write about the moral given. Some people wrote a different moral at the end. Hard work may have been apart of their story but it wasn’t the central idea. ● Most people are naming their characters by the species and using a capital letter. (Dog rather than the dog) ● Nearly everyone structured their ideas in paragraphs ● It was lovely to read all the great ideas expressed simply as expected in a fable. Some wrote ideas that were too similar to known fables. ● Good use of dialogue. Most people didn’t overuse it. Some needed to include dialogue. ● The best stories included description, including figurative language and dynamic dialogue.
