Nội dung text SPEAKING TỔNG QUAN - HMT.pdf

Prepared by: Thái, Hà Minh Period covered: Apr 29, 2024 - Jun 15, 2024 Introduction In the IELTS Speaking test, you will have a discussion with a certified examiner lasting between 11 and 14 minutes. This will be interactive and as close to a real-life discussion as possible. The test has three parts: In Part 1 - you will answer questions about yourself and your family. In Part 2 - you will speak about a given topic, which will be introduced by the examiner on the day. In Part 3 - you will have a longer discussion with the examiner about the topic introduced in Part 2. A word from HMT In this document, you can expect to understand how to approach the IELTS Speaking Questions.
Understand the test structure Quick Numbers 3 3 parts 2 In part 2, you should speak for 2 minutes 1 Only one part gives you time to prepare The marking system is based on 4 factors 1. Fluency and Coherence 2. Lexical Resources 3. Grammatical Range and Accuracy 4. Pronunciation
The problems with Vietnamese students in Speaking 1, Do not Fully Understand How the Speaking Test Is Marked The examiner is not asking questions because he/she needs answers. There are no correct or incorrect answers in the speaking test. There are two basic types of answers: [A] An answer to the question: “How often do you go to the cinema?” “One a month” [B] A response focused on language: “What's your favorite color?” “Well, to be quite honest, I don't really have an actual favorite color but I guess that if I were buying clothes, then I'd usually go for something like blue or gray – you know, kind of dull colors, nothing too bright.” The examiner gives marks for language ability not information, so answer A would actually get a very low mark. (There is some language ability here – 3 words, so answers like these might finally get a score of 4.) Answer B does not focus on ―answering‖ the question, instead, it focuses on showing as much language ability as possible. This is the type of answer that a candidate needs to consistently produce to get a score in the region of 7. 2, First Language Interference Vietnamese English Economical Language Redundant Language Focus on the key answer. Focus on the details. Ex: Student A Ex: Student B
PART I We will talk about our daily lives. I divided the questions into 5 different types. This is how I will extend my answers in Part I Type of Question How to extend your answers Yes/No Explain your choice. Optional Listing Best/Worst option from the list. Why The biggest reason.
