Year 3 Writing – 3016b Term 2 Week 9 – Lesson 18 Expectations It is expected that students write a draft in their exercise book and bring this book to class each lesson. Notes from class instructions should be written down, these include vocabulary and Quick Write activities. Drafts will be checked but not collected. Students need to edit their work, proofread their sentences carefully, and always use a dictionary when writing. A thesaurus is also highly recommended. Today’s Fun Fact Greeting/ Feedback Ask students to share how they felt about writing their most recent piece of writing  Did they find it easy or difficult?  What did they enjoy about this task?  Ask some students to share what they wrote about Present feedback from past essays (Favourite animal report) You may also choose to present a model essay. General feedback examples  Paragraphs- what they are and how they are used  Word choice- highlight the use of a thesaurus Focus 1: Quick Writes The QW activities are set up to tie in with the topic. It is a brainstorming and discussion aspect of the class. Students need to think quickly, much like in exam conditions, and respond to the mini-tasks to the best of their ability.
Set a timer for 40 seconds (recommended) or choose a time you wish to spend on each Quick Write activity. Time should not exceed 2 minutes per topic. Ask students to write as much as they can about the topics. Today’s Quick Writes  The best kind of ice cream is  What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you? How did you feel?  Describe what you did today before you went to school today? Try using some amazing adjectives. Focus 2: Vocabulary and Sequencing Events Choose a few of these questions to run through with the class. The rest should be completed as homework.
