Cách dùng: Diễn tả sự việc có thể xảy ra ở hiện tại hoặc tương lai Ví dụ: - If we study hard, we will pass the exam. (Nếu chúng ta học hành chăm chỉ, chúng ta sẽ đỗ kì thi.) Lưu ý: Unless...= If not... Ví dụ: We’ll go camping if the weather is fine. (Chúng ta sẽ đi cắm trại nếu thời tiết đẹp.) = Unless the weather is fine, we won’t go camping. (Trừ khi thời tiết đẹp, chúng ta sẽ đi cắm trại.) Lưu ý: Để câu nói thêm trang trọng ta dùng đảo ngữ (thay "if" bằng "should".) Ví dụ: If I were you, I would quit that job. (Nếu tôi là bạn, tôi sẽ từ bỏ công việc đó.) Chú ý: Trong câu điều kiện loại 2, chúng ta dùng “were” cho tất cả các ngôi. Lưu ý: - Để câu nói thêm trang trọng ta đảo "were" lên đầu câu nếu động từ trong mệnh đề if là "be". Were + S + ..., S + would/could/might + Were you in my situation, what would you do? (Bạn sẽ làm gì nếu bạn ở trong hoàn cảnh của tôi?) - Để câu nói thêm trang trọng ta đảo "were" lên đầu câu và động từ trong mệnh đề if đưa về "to V" nếu động từ đó là động từ thường. (Nếu tôi biết địa chỉ của cô ấy, tôi sẽ viết thư cho cô ấy.) - Để nhấn mạnh danh từ trong câu điều kiện loại 2. Ta dùng: If it weren't for + N, S + would/could/might + V = Were it not for/ but for/ without + N, S + would/could/might + V (Nếu không có........ thì.......) If it weren't for pollution, the city life would be wonderful. = Were it not for pollution, the city life would be wonderful.
