Year 5 English Term 1 – Week 5 Homework: New • Homework Practice 5005b: all questions. • Verbal Reasoning Practice 5 – 5005a: all questions. Ongoing • Practise spelling words. • Read every night (at least 30 mins). • Continue your personal vocabulary list – use a dictionary to look up unfamiliar words from the homework practices and your personal reading. Record the definitions in your English notebook. Note: No textbook work this week. ‘Vocabulary Skills Year 6’ needed in Week 7. (Optional) Warm Up – Language Skills: A monkey, a squirrel, and a bird are racing to the top of a coconut tree. Who will get the banana first? Answer: None of them—bananas don’t grow on coconut trees! Students are to write the words in their notebook and check the correct spelling from the whiteboard/slides. Mock Exams Next Week General exam tips: - For reading comprehension passages, read the questions before reading the text. - Think about how much time you should spend on each question – if a question is taking too long, skip it and go back. - You will not be able to use notebooks, textbooks or calculators. Blank paper for working out is allowed (this will be provided for on-campus students). - Make sure to have a full bottle of water and snack ready for the break between exams. - Make sure to visit the bathroom before the start of the first session. - Remember to take some slow, deep breaths if you feel stressed or worried.
