INTRODUCTION Virus-host interaction – considered at different levels: 1. The cell 2. The individuals 3. The community The cellular level – viral infection cause broad spectrum of effects which range from no apparent cellular damage to rapid cell destruction.
Causes of cellular injury May be due to number of causes: Early or nonstructural viral proteins often cause a shut-down of host protein and DNA synthesis Large amounts of viral macromolecules that accumulate in the infected cell may distort the cellular architecture and exert a toxic effect
