BECS 11431 Instructions Department of Physics and Electronics 2 THE REPORT Laboratory reports should include any circuits and theory you used, any calculations you conducted during the class, the table of data, appropriate graphs (if any), results, discussion of errors, and how the laboratory exercise influence your understanding of the subject matter. Your instructor will sign your in lab calculations and observations sheet during the lab class. Reports are due the week following the exercise. THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS OF THE RECORED FOR AN EXPERIMENT ARE: i. Front cover, which includes Heading, Name, Student number, Partner's name, Date etc. ii. Aim of the experiment. iii. Apparatus used. iv. Theory - a very brief summary which includes the essential equations applicable to the experiment. v. Procedure - a brief description of how the experiment was performed. vi. In Lab Calculations- calculating various circuit parameters to design a particular circuit. vii. Observations - a table of data that was measured at the laboratory using measuring equipment. viii. Results and Calculations - the record of all observations and their errors, tabulated where appropriate, plus any graphs, calculations and error treatment. Units must be included. ix. Conclusion - a summary of the experimental results and their associated errors and, where possible, a comparison with published values. x. Discussion - a critical but concise discussion of the experiment, with comments on equipment, techniques and difficulties. In general, the information contained in the laboratory manual need not be reproduced. However, you should always sketch the experimental arrangement or circuit, label the instruments used according to their name and include those key equations which you employ. LABORATORY GRADE Final laboratory grade is obtained from four sources: i. the report grades; ii. an evaluation by the instructor of your performance in the laboratory; iii. end of the semester presentation; and iv. a practical examination given at the end of the semester.
