PROCEDURES: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities 1.Warm- up and review: (5’) Game: Inside my bag *Aims: to revise the new words and structures from previous lessons. *Procedure: - T prepares some cards (Snow White, the seven dwarfs, the ant, the grasshopper, the tortoise, the hare, the fox, the crow), writes out numbers on one side and characters on the other side, then puts them in four bags. Give each team a bag. - Divide the class into four teams. - Divide each team into pairs. - Have each pair come to the front of the class and choose a card from the bag. - Have one student ask, ex: Who are the main characters in the story? and the other answer, ex. They’re Snow White and the seven dwarfs. Swap roles. - The first team to ask and answer correctly wins. - Say “Open your book page 51” and look at “Unit 17, Lesson 3 (4,5,6)”. 2.Practice: (8’) Activity 1. Read and tick True or False: *Aims: Ss will be able to read a story and show understanding of it by ticking True or False. *Procedure: - Tell ss the goal of the activity and explain that they should read the story and sentences and decide if the sentences are true or false. - Model sentence 1 + Have ss read the sentence and find the relevant information in the story. + Ask where in the story they can find the information. Explain that ss need to find the word lived in the story and read the words after that to find the information. - Set a time limit for ss to do the rest of the task independently. - Get ss to swap their books with a partner and check their answers before checking as a class. - Have ss read the sentences in the story that help them find the correct information. - Read the story aloud with ss Key: 1. Let’s write *Aims: Ss will be able to complete the character map with information about a character from a story. *Procedure: - Tell the class the goal of the activity and explain that they have to complete the character map by writing at least four sentences about a character. - Have ss read the central box: Character and elicit some storybook characters to write about. - Give ss time to complete the rest of the character map independently. - Get ss to swap their books with a partner and check their answers before checking as a class. Suggested answer: Character: the ant In the story: The Ant and the Grasshopper Actions: He worked hard. He collected food for the winter. Thoughts: Winter is cold. Words: ‘I’m busy getting food for the winter.’ Activity 3. Project. *Aims: Ss will be able to make a stick puppet and use it to tell a story in class. *Procedure: - Tell Ss about the goal of the activity. Explain again that they will use the prepared stick puppets to tell the story. - Have Ss work in groups to prepare for their storytelling. - Invite a few Ss to tell the story in front of the class. Praise good performances. Suggested answer: I will tell you a story. It is The Ant and the Grasshopper. The main characters are the ant and the grasshopper. The Ant worked hard to collect food for the winter. The Grasshopper was lazy. He sang and danced and played. He did not collect food for the winter. Then, winter came. The Grasshopper had nothing. He was hungry and cold. The Ant had lots of food. 4. Fun corner and wrap- up (4’) Game: Word chain - Prepare number cards for the main characters. Place these cards on the board in a given sequence, ex: Snow White, the seven dwarfs, the ant, the grasshopper, the tortoise, the hare, the fox, the crow. - Point to a student. He / She says the first word in the sequence, ex: Snow White. - Point to another student.
