CHAPTER 4 OATH OF OFFICE AND SECRECY OATH*/AFFIRMATION OF OFFICE AND SECRECY I.....................................................................do swear*/solemnly and sincerely affirm* that I will well and truly serve Trinidad and Tobago in the office of a Police Officer without favor or affection, malice or ill will, and that I will cause the peace to be kept and preserved, in Trinidad and Tobago, and that I will prevent, to the utmost of my power, all offences against the same; and that while I shall continue to hold the said office I will, to the best of my skill and knowledge, discharge all the duties thereof faithfully according to law and will not, without due authority in that behalf, in any manner whatsoever publish or communicate any facts or information being facts or expression of opinion based on such facts that come to my knowledge by reason of my being the holder of such office. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE OATH OF OFFICE It signifies that it is your duty as a police officer:-  To be impartial in the performance of your duties i.e. not to be influenced by an individual’s race, ethnicity, class, gender, religion etc.  To be loyal to the continued existence and preservation of the democratic state of Trinidad and Tobago.  To preserve the peace.  To faithfully discharge your duties according to law.  To disclose information coming into your possession as a result of your office only when authorized to do so.  To protect any secrets that comes to his knowledge in the course of his duties. NB. According to the PSA 7 of 2006 Section 72, it is a requirement that every police officer on his first appointment shall take the oath laid out in the Fifth Schedule.
