CBSE CLASS 10th CHEMISTRY MOST IMPORTANT TOPICS 1 CBSE CLASS 10th CHEMISTRY MOST IMPORTANT TOPICS 1. Chemical equations A chemical equation is the symbolic representation of a chemical reaction in the form of symbols and formulae, wherein the reactant entities are given on the left- hand side and the product entities on the right-hand side. For example - NaOH+HCl⟶NaCl+H2O. Reactants are converted to products, and the process is symbolized by a chemical equation. For example - Iron (Fe) and sulfur (S) combine to form iron sulfide (FeS). Fe(s) + S(s) → FeS(s) The plus sign indicates that iron reacts with sulfur. 2. How to write a chemical equations? Identify the most complex substance. Beginning with that substance, choose an element(s) that appears in only one reactant and one product, if possible. Adjust the coefficients to obtain the same number of atoms of this element(s) on both sides. Steps : Step 1: Write the number of atoms of elements present in reactants and in products in a table. Step 2: Balance the atom which is the maximum in number, on either side of chemical equation. ≠ " " ≠ ≤ Chemical " " equations % % ?!n " Tso- - n e SIMPLE ! ! ~ ~ )

Double displacement reaction 3.1 Combination Reaction : When two or more reactants combine with each other to form a new product it is called as combination reaction. Combination reaction is also known as synthesis reaction. For example: hydrogen gets combined with chlorine to from hydro-chloride. 3.2 Decomposition reaction : A decomposition reaction occurs when one reactant breaks down into two or more products. This can be represented by the general equation: AB → A + B. Examples of decomposition reactions include the breakdown of hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen, and the breakdown of water to hydrogen and oxygen.
CBSE CLASS 10th CHEMISTRY MOST IMPORTANT TOPICS 3 3.3 Displacement reaction : A chemical reaction in which a highly reactive species(or element) displaces or pushes out a less reactive element from its solution is called displacement reaction. For example: zinc removes iron ions from iron sulfate solution. 3.4 Double displacement reaction : A double displacement reaction is a type of reaction where part of of one reactant is replaced by part of another reactant. Double displacement reaction take the form : AB + CD → AD + CB. Example: AgNO3+NaCl→AgCl+NaNO3 I> Displacement g.§ ←
