Vietnam National University, Hanoi University of Languages and International Studies Faculty of English Language Teacher Education Translation and Interpreting Division This course provides students with understanding about the translation job and translation market. In addition, students are equipped with non-linguistic skills which are necessary for professional translators and interpreters as well as the application of technology in translation. Students are trained by practical case studies, with audio-visual examples. Moreover, students also have the chance to organize a mock-conference and observation of real interpreters working. 4. COURSE OBJECTIVES By the end of the course, the learners should be able to: 1. Knowledge 1.1 Explain basic ethical principles that translation and interpreting practitioners have to follow; 1.2 Develop understanding on the nature of translation and interpreting profession and the translation market; 2. Skills 2.1. Apply ethical principles in addressing situations that practitioners face; 2.2. Use computer-aided-translation (CAT) tools to translate documents effectively; 2.3. Develop interpreting skills by working as interpreters in simulated context; 3. Attitude 3.1. Perform professionalism, demonstrate responsibility and motivation for future career.
