NCM 113 BY TONS and MADS WEEK 9: PLANNING COMMUNITY HEALTH INTERVENTION ★ VIDEO LINK (click me) : - not transcribed ★ ADDITIONAL RESOURCE: LINK PLANNING ➢ logical process of decision making to determine which of the health identified concerns requires more immediate consideration (priority setting) & what action may be undertaken to achieve goals. ➢ Planning for community health interventions is based on findings during assessment and formulated nursing diagnosis. ➢ Planning Phase - involves priority setting, formulating goals and objectives, and deciding on community interventions. ○ Active participation of the people ○ To foster participation, the community should have genuine representation in the planning group. ○ Deciding on community representatives will be facilitated if the community has been organized earlier. ➢ Priority Setting - Provides nurse and health team with logical means of establishing priority among identified health concerns CRITERIA for PRIORITY SETTING Criterias To Decide On A Community Health Concern For Intervention According To WHO 1) Significance of the Problem a) based on number of people in the community affected by the problem or condition. b) If the concerns are: i) Disease Condition - significance estimatez.d in terms of its prevalence rate ii) Potential Problem - significance determined by estimating number of people at risk of developing condition. 2) Level of Community Awareness a) Priority its member give to the health concern is - A MAJOR consideration b) Related to community gives to health concern, c) community motivation to deal with conditions. 3) Ability to Reduce Risk a) is related to availability of expertise among the health team in the community itself. b) involves health team's level of influence in decision making related to actions in resolving the community health concern. 4) Determining cost of Reducing Risk a) consider economic, social & ethical requisites and consequences of planned actions. 5) Ability to identify the Target Population a) For the intervention is a matter of availability of data resources such as FHSIS, census, survey reports or case/ screening finding. 6) Availability of Resources a) To intervene in reduction of risk entails technological, financial & other material resources of community, nurse, health agency. b) Accessibility of outside resources & the link to the resources are taken into account GROUP ➔ A flexible process using nominal group technique wherein each group member has an equal voice in decision making, thereby avoiding control of process by the more dominant members of the group. ➔ Criteria ◆ From scale of 1-10 (1 being the lowest), the members give each criterion ● A weight based on their perception of its degree of importance in solving the problem. ● Rates the criteria in terms of likelihood of the group being able to influence or change the situation. ◆ Collate weights (step 1) & ratings (step 2) made by members of the group. ◆ Compute total priority score of problem by multiplying collated weight & rating of each criterion. ◆ Priority score of problem is calculaacted by adding production obtained in step 4. 1
