Sredni Vashtar by Saki Summary "Sredni Vashtar" is about a young, sickly boy named Conradin who lives with his strict and unkind cousin, Mrs. De Ropp. Both dislike each other. Mrs. De Ropp controls everything in Conradin's life, even stopping him from eating toast or having any friends. To escape, Conradin creates a fantasy world where he worships a fierce ferret named Sredni Vashtar as his god. He keeps this ferret hidden in a shed, where he also once kept a hen until Mrs. De Ropp sold it. Conradin prays to Sredni Vashtar, asking him to make Mrs. De Ropp go away. One day, Mrs. De Ropp goes into the shed to find out what Conradin is hiding. Conradin watches as the ferret comes out with blood on it. Realizing what has happened, Conradin calmly eats a piece of toast while the servants discover Mrs. De Ropp's body.
